About

My wife and I were both born and brought up in Hampshire and have fond memories of both our parents and grandparents eating their home grown progress. It seemed only natural then that, now we have a family of our own, we would want to continue the tradition and try and grow something of our own. As we only had a small garden, an allotment seemed the obvious choice so we applied to the local council and, in early 2011, were rewarded with a brand new plot.

As we were starting from scratch, it took a while to get things going, although it was great to be working with a blank canvas. Things were going really well and we were starting to harvest some wonderful produce when, in the middle of our first season, we made the decision to up-sticks and move to the Isle of Wight so that I could be closer to work and avoid the daily ferry commute.

We were lucky enough to find ourselves a perfect little house with a relatively large garden, so the disappointment of leaving the allotment behind was soon replaced with the joy of creating a new veg garden, practically from scratch, just a few steps from our kitchen door.

This then is the occasional blog of our adventures in creating our very own veg garden on the Isle of Wight.
